Hello and welcome to WORDTheatre Weekly: The Short Story Podcast where great authors and great actors meet! I’m your host, Cedering Fox, WORDTheatre's Founder & Artistic Director.

As you may have noticed, all forms of media have been a little oversaturated with American content recently. For the sake of not adding to this problem, we have been sharing highlights from our latest UK show, WORDTheatreUK Presents Selections from the Best British Short Stories Anthology, 2010-2024. This week's story, "When We Went Gallivanting," is fresh, delightful, and full of heart. We are so excited to share this piece, read gorgeously by actors Leemore Marrett Jr. and Kayla Meikle.

We are lucky enough to be able to share a brief introduction from the author, but before we get to Leone's words, we'd like to share a little bit of information about her.

Leone Ross is an English born writer and academic who spent her early life in Jamaica before returning to London where she currently lives. Her short story collection, Come Let Us Sing Anyway, was nominated for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize and Jhalak Prize. Her first novel, All the Blood Is Red, was long-listed for the Orange Prize, and her second novel, Orange Laughter, was placed on Wasafiri magazine's list of 25 Most Influential Books from the previous quarter-century in 2009.

Here now, is Leone to introduce her story.

LEONE ROSS INTRO

Kayla Meikle is an English actress best known for her roles in the films, The Man in my Basement, The Capture, and Medusa Deluxe. In 2022, she starred in the theatre production, Marys Seacole at London's Donmar Warehouse.

Leemore Marrett Jr. is an English actor whom you may recognize from the films Deadpool & Wolverine, Three Little Birds, and My Name Is Leon. He has appeared in television series such as Netflix's Crossing Lines, Vera, and Utopia.
